Pinched and sculpted bird with underglaze and glaze

The artists made long open pinch pots that they then sealed (almost like making a Cornish pasty) before elongating the clay to shape a beak and tail. They were then painted with underglaze colours before a final coat of clear glaze. The birds each have two holes in the base, so as well as looking good simply standing on a flat surface they can also be raised on two thin metal rods or canes. They are fired to earthenware so not frost proof if they are going outside.

The sale of ceramics made by the Hive group of neurodiverse artists will support the activities of Eastbourne Mencap.
