About this class

Paper clay is an amazing and exciting material. Mixing organic fibres with a clay body enables you to create complex structures. The fibres burn out in the firing so you are left with a lighter, finer body. During the workshop, Lucy Cobb will guide you through a range of techniques using paper clay in its liquid and plastic state.  We will use liquid paper clay to take casts of organic material including leaves, seedpods and dried flowers, building up layers to create unique sculptures. The liquid clay will also be poured onto textured surfaces to make slabs that can be joined together to make larger sculptural pieces. The clay body will be rolled into slabs ready to take delicate impressions of flowers, seeds, grasses and finer leaves. Lucy Cobb studied Sculpture and Ceramics at Edinburgh College of Art and leads the specialist paper clay workshops at West Dean College. We are delighted that Lucy is returning to the pottery to share her in-depth knowledge of this fascinating material. £100 including all materials and firing
