About this class
The general ceramics classes are suitable for all levels of ability. They operate on a rolling basis and are bookable in 4 week blocks, many of our students have been returning for several years! The studio closes for a couple of weeks at Christmas, another couple of weeks for our Summer holidays and on most bank holidays but otherwise classes take place at the following times each week: Monday 10am to 1pm Monday 2pm to 5pm Monday 6pm to 9pm Tuesday 10am to 1pm Tuesday 6pm to 9pm Wednesday 10.30am to 1.30pm Thursday 1.30pm to 4.30pm The first block of four x three hour classes is £120, returning students pay the discounted rate £110. To reserve your place on a general class please contact the studio by email email@example.com to find out where we have availability. We then ask for a deposit of £40 to secure your place. The balance of £80 can be paid by card or cash at your first class. When you go through to the booking form, please ignore the dates given - this simply provides a time span for the booking function to be live. Your start date will be confirmed by email. Bring your sketches, photographs or any research materials you wish to use as a starting point. We will guide and support your making with both hand-building and throwing, introducing you to a wide range of techniques to realise your ideas. If you have never used clay before we will start by showing you how to construct forms using a variety of hand building techniques including pinch, coiling, slab and press moulds. You will then be introduced to throwing on the potter's wheel so that you can decide which technique best suits your project. We look at a wide variety of surface decoration techniques using slips, underglazes, oxides and glazes. All materials are included in the class fee and there is a small additional charge for firing by weight of finished work. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes and please bring a full-length apron - working with clay can be a messy business!
