A special one day raku experience for Sussex Craft Week Sussex Craft Week 2025 is the first edition of a new festival of craft to celebrate makers and making across Sussex, with a full programme of activities from 14 to 22 June Raku is a Japanese ceramic firing technique that produces unique and beautiful results. During the day you will learn about the different firing techniques used in raku, such as reduction and oxidation, and how they impact the final product. We start the day at the studio where we'll be decorating and glazing your choice of four, studio-made, bisque fired pots ready to take down to our offsite workshop for a shared vegetarian lunch followed by the outdoor firing in a gas kiln. The red hot pieces are carefully lifted from the kiln when it reaches 1000 degrees and plunged into a bed of combustible material like sawdust or shredded paper. As the molten glaze crackles during this forced cooling, the carbon in the smoke reveals the wonderful crazed patterns. This firing technique can also produce stunning metallic surfaces, especially when we use a copper glaze. £130 including all ceramic materials, lunch and refreshments Please let us know ahead of the day if you have any special dietary requirements
Cancellation Policy
We are not able to offer full refunds unless the class, workshop or taster session you have booked is cancelled 14 or more days before the session. If you need to cancel your class, workshop or taster session, please get in touch, we might be able to book you on an alternative date. If your booking is cancelled less than 14 days before the session we might be able to offer you a refund, less 25 % administration fee, if we can fill your space with another student. We are unable to offer alternative dates for the beginners classes if you miss a session as they follow a set structure.
