Tuesday afternoon beginners throwing

About this class

A new class that focuses on throwing for complete beginners or anyone who has tried throwing but would like to run through the basics again. Running over six weeks starting on Tuesday the 27th of June from 2.00 to 5.00, the last session is on Tuesday the 1st of August. This block of six three hour classes is £175 and all materials are included, there is a small additional charge for firing by weight of finished work at £5.50 per kilo. In week one we'll show you how to prepare the clay ready to throw, the different types of wedging, securing the clay on the wheel, getting to grips with centering and opening out. In weeks two and three you'll learn how to pull up the walls of the clay into a cylinder and how to start opening out the cylinder to create a bowl. In weeks four and five you will practice and stretch these techniques as well as learning how to turn your 'leather hard' work to refine it's shape and base profile. In week six we will be glazing your selected pieces. We keep the classes small so that we can tailor our teaching to your needs. Throwing can be a very messy activity, wear clothes you don't mind getting coated in clay and please bring an apron.

Cancelation Policy

We are not able to offer full refunds unless the class, workshop or taster session you have booked is cancelled 14 or more days before the session. If you need to cancel your class, workshop or taster session, please get in touch, we might be able to book you on an alternative date. If your booking is cancelled less than 14 days before the session we might be able to offer you a refund, less 25 % administration fee, if we can fill your space with another student. We are unable to offer alternative dates for the beginners classes if you miss a session as they follow a set structure.
