About this class
This is the second of our new evening classes especially for beginners running over six weeks starting on Wednesday 12th January from 6.00 to 9.00, the last session is on Wednesday 16th February. Reserve your place for this block of six three hour classes with a deposit of £40, the balance of £125 can be paid by card or cash at your first class. In the first four weeks you will be guided step by step through the three main hand-building techniques of pinch, coil and slab plus the more unusual Japanese carving technique known as Kurinuki. In week five you will be introduced to throwing on the wheel and how to prepare the clay ready for throwing. We'll focus on centering, securing the clay on the wheel and pulling up the walls of the clay into a cylinder. In week six with the small vessels thrown in week five, you'll learn the basics of how to turn your work to refine it's shape and base profile. Throughout the six weeks we will look at lots of ways that you can decorate, colour and glaze your work. We have a great library of ceramics books and journals for inspiration and please bring any ideas with you that you would like to try. We keep the classes small so that we can tailor our teaching to your needs. All materials are included in the class fee and there is a small additional charge for firing by weight of finished work at £5 per kilo. All you need to bring with you is an apron and a notebook.
We are not able to offer refunds unless the class, workshop or taster session you have booked is cancelled 10 or more days before the session. If you need to cancel a session, please get in touch, we might be able to book you on an alternative date and we are happy to offer you a refund if we can fill your space with another student.
