Join artist and designer Emma Carlow at the studio for this fantastic two-day workshop creating a tile panel decorated using slip and stencils. Composed of 15 tiles, your panel might become the perfect splash back for your sink or cooker or a beautiful standalone artwork. On day one we'll make our tiles and work on a series of small tests practicing ways to work with slip. Slip is liquid clay coloured with ceramic stains and/or oxides which can be opaque or have some translucency depending on how it is mixed and applied. We'll plan our designs and get the foundation colour applied to our panel. On day two we'll cut and apply masks and stencils to the panel to build up layers of colour, shape and pattern before adding details with sgraffito and slip trailers. Emma has been super busy this year with exhibitions of her wonderful clay whistles, recently at Meiklejohn Gallery in Lewes with a collection of small clay statues and ceramic whistles in celebration of the threatened farmland surrounding the village of Hamsey in East Sussex.
Cancellation Policy
We are not able to offer full refunds unless the class, workshop or taster session you have booked is cancelled 14 or more days before the session. If you need to cancel your class, workshop or taster session, please get in touch, we might be able to book you on an alternative date. If your booking is cancelled less than 14 days before the session we might be able to offer you a refund, less 25 % administration fee, if we can fill your space with another student. We are unable to offer alternative dates for the beginners classes if you miss a session as they follow a set structure.
