Information about the classes we offer

Beginners classes

If you are new to working with clay or want to go over the basics again, one of our beginner's courses is the perfect way to start. The Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday evening beginner's classes run over seven weeks and give you a structured introduction to hand-building with clay - pinching, coiling, and building with slabs as well as the more unusual Japanese-inspired Kurinuki carving technique.

We will explore a variety of ways to decorate your work with texture, slips, oxides and our wide choice of  beautiful glazes. You'll also have the opportunity to try your hand on the wheel, throwing a small bowl or cylinder and then trimming it to refine the shape. All materials are included in the class fees and there is a small additional charge for firing by weight of finished glazed work.

Wednesday afternoon beginners 2 to 5

Wednesday evening beginners 6 to 9

Throwing classes for beginners & improvers

Learn all the foundation techniques for throwing and continue to develop and refine your skills as an improver on our six week wheel courses. Once you've become confident with the basics we introduce more adventurous projects, learn to throw taller, wider, multipart, and with lids, spouts and handles. You will be guided through a wide range of glazing choices to create a lovely selection of bowls, cups, jugs, plates or more sculptural pieces. All materials are included in the class fee and there is a small additional charge for firing by weight of finished work.
