Sussex Kintsugi: the art of repair
Three hour workshop: Saturday 28 February 10.00 to 1.00 - fully booked
About this class
Join Andri Maimaridou, the founder of Sussex Kintsugi for this three hour workshop learning about the Japanese art of Kintsugi, a creative way of transforming something broken into art. In this workshop we will explore modern materials that capture the visual beauty of traditional Kintsugi while making the practice safe and accessible. All materials and protective equipment will be provided including the broken pottery! Next time you break a piece of work or it doesn't quite survive the rigours of the kiln, you'll be able to use the technique. Andri gained her master’s degree in Conservation Studies at West Dean College where she now teaches as a visiting lecture. She has carried out conservation work for the Novium Museum in Chichester, the Royal College of Music Museum, the David Livingstone Birthplace Museum in Blantyre, Scotland, and the Stourbridge Glass Museum.
