About this class

Our classes are available to book by individual terms, made up of six, three-hour classes. This class is perfect for anyone looking to practice and develop their throwing technique. Our experienced tutors will take you step by step through the key stages of working on the wheel. Starting with clay preparation and wedging, you’ll learn how to conquer centering ready to create a perfect cylinder - the starting point for so many forms. As you grow in confidence and start to feel at ease with the clay (remember you're in control of the wheel) you can increase the weight you throw to develop larger, more complex pieces or refine your technique to use the clay more efficiently and create beautiful, simple shapes. We'll show you the best ways to trim and refine your work. How to alter forms, create multi-part pieces and test out different ways to add texture and surface decoration before glazing your work. We fire to earthenware and stoneware and have a beautiful range of studio made glazes for each temperature. We work with four main clay bodies - buff, white, terracotta and flecked. We keep the classes small so that we can tailor our teaching to your needs. All materials are included in the class fee and there is a small additional charge for firing by weight of finished work per kilo. All you need to bring with you is an apron and a notebook.
