About this class

This block of six, three hour classes is suitable for complete beginners on the wheel. It is structured to give you step by step guidance in basic throwing techniques. We focus on how to analyse your thrown work to improve technique rather than making a set of finished pieces. You might want to keep a select number of pieces for glazing in the final week, choosing from our wonderful range of colours. After six weeks, you will have a good understanding of how to throw small cylinders and simple bowls, enabling you to progress on to one of our next stage courses where you can develop your skills. Like any craft, throwing requires sustained practice to become at ease with the material, it takes time to achieve consistent results! We keep the classes small so that we can tailor our teaching to your needs. All you need to bring with you is an apron, a small notebook is also useful. All materials are included in the class fee but there is a small charge per kilo of finished work for firing. We fire to earthenware and stoneware and have a beautiful range of glazes for each temperature.
